Meet Abbie Arden, a quirky young woman who at last realizes her life’s passion: the written word. Abbie, fledgling editorial assistant, is assigned to the American Open, a tennis tournament held each August, where, among other things, she must interview Max Tadeo, a gorgeous, Spanish, professional tennis player (poor Abbie has a fetish for accents), and, well... Max is a tad unusual himself. Abbie encounters a few problems on her mission to become "superjournalist": she thinks tennis is for people who enjoy chasing green balls (boring!); she has sworn off all men (even sexy Spaniards); and last but not least, Abbie wants "real" stories, not tennis fluff! Within the pages of Love Match, a sense of belonging envelops Abbie out of the blue, new friendships develop and investigative reporting takes a life-threatening twist. Love Match follows along as the neurotic but lovable heroine ultimately has to choose to live for love or for fear.

Aug 16, 2010The thing about Abbie Arden is that she can't be anyone except herself. I liked the character immediately because she is genuine. Genuinely conflicted, genuinely curious and hers is a story that should be read. The banter between Max and Abbie reminded me of the Spencer/Hepburn heat with a Spanish accent. I'm looking forward to reading the next book by Amy Bates and I would heartedly recommend "Love Match" for a read that will leave you giggling and wondering about the gift of risk.
Jun 13, 2009"I enjoyed this book" I finshed this book in between homework today and must say that I really enjoyed it. I thought books like these (concerning tennis, that is) didn't exist, so I was more than excited to cop it. The protagonist, Abbigail Arden, is one disturbing character. I actually feared for her public reputation 1/4 way through the book! She is a character that I feel everyone can identify with, only she lacks the ability to hide her flaws as well as everyone else. For good cause though! Max is a deep character too. If you dig hot, Spanish-speaking (or English-with-an-accent-speaking) tennis guys, dig this Tadeo fellow. My favorite part of the book was the epilogue. On the pros side, this is a good (and rare) book for tennis fans. I recommend it, even for none tennis fans. Ms. Bates wrote this non-tennis-fan-friendly, so everyone can enjoy it. The characters are rounded and you can feel their emotions. Cons are a few typos every so often, but not enough to ruin the... Oct 18, 2008"WONDERFUL ESCAPISM, A JOY TO READ." I love this book, it transports you into Abbie's world and it's easy to imagine yourself as her as it's written from her perspective Anyone who ever had a crush on someone (that's everyone!) will love this book and will identify with Abbie. I found myself imagining my favourite "famous person" as the leading man and was totally transported into dreamland forgetting about everything around me and not wanting to put this book down.It really engages you emotionally, is full of humour, is very descriptive and I loved the very profound epilogue. You don't need to like or understand tennis to enjoy this book (but if you do, you'll also enjoy it!) If you like love stories you'll love this book, I highly recommend it!
