This 366-day meditation book of 405 pages is for people dealing with BOTH addiction recovery (especially alcohol and drugs), and a Borderline Personality Disorder diagnosis. Written by a female who has been free from substance addiction since 1989, and began her BPD treatment and recovery in 2004. It is a book that is full of facts, humor, statistics, suggestions, and hope for a better life as the tools of recovery are practiced diligently by those individuals who deal with either or BOTH disorders. Coping with an addiction and a mental disorder can be mind-boggling if attempted without a lot of help. It cannot be successfuly done otherwise. Traveling a path of recovery using a combination of recovery texts, therapy, groups, meetings, maybe meditation and opening up to the possibility of that life can get better, is explored in daily bites of experience, strength and hope. Written by someone who experiences recovery from both.

I read Prepare for the Harvest each morning as I do my daily devotions. I appreciate the honesty and generous sharing of this author's experience strength and hope in regard to recovery from addictions as well as BPD. I have personally witnessed the suffering of an alcoholic trying to recover from alcoholism while not being properly diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. As you could imagine, she never could stay sober. Thank you to Ms. Allison for her courage in writing a book which can further educate those who still do not understand this disorder.
Prepare for the Harvest is the result of a 15 year-long transformation by Amy Allison from a Twelve Stepper successfully dealing with alcohol addiction, but undiagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder to a fully self-aware individual who is dealing well with this discomfiting dual diagnosis. She shares the result of that journey in this daily reading book. Through her writing, she explained to this layman the nature and mystery of this disorder better than any learned treatise might have done. She offers a beacon of hope to those who know or suspect that the world is topsy turvy because of Borderline Personality Disorder.
A book like this is long overdue. As someone who has been in an eight year relationship with a recovering alcoholic who suffers from BPD, I now feel there is hope for both her and me. Once the alcoholism is under control the real struggle begins. The BPD no longer has anything to mask the behaviors that people once attributed to her drinking. Getting mentally healthy is a task that is made more manageable by utilizing the words of wisdom found in this book. I recommend it to anyone who suffers from the diseases or has a family member who does. I commend the author for her courage in personally dealing with two diseases that have been the demise of far too many good people. Her book is a beacon of light to those who struggle with these issues on a day to day basis. Bravo, Ms. Allison.
