"Review of The Seiners" 'The Seiners' by Anastasia Cassella-Young, can be described using a single word… AWESOME. The first few chapters of Anastasia's book vividly set the stage as well as the storyline; and they do so in a way that gradually snares the reader's curiosity. On the one hand, 'The Seiners' is a tale familiar to many immigrant families of the early-mid 1900's that made a livelihood fishing the coastal waters of Maine. On the other, it is a tale of mystery, managing more than enough suspense to thrill any audience. From the dedication page to the very last, Anastasia's book repeatedly touches the heart as it takes the reader through a multitude of predicaments ranging from hardship to riches. In authoring 'The Seiners', Anastasia Cassella- Young has penned not only an outstanding tribute to her Dad; she has transformed imagination and emotion into a pleasurably rewarding read.

"Review by Faith Ann Carroll " ‘The Seiners’ by Anastasia Cassella-Young is a wonderful tale of the old-fashioned ways of the fishermen in Maine. I believe all books, all works of literature, take the reader somewhere, but this one blew me out of the water! As a proofreader, I was so involved, that I didn't check the first several pages and had to go back! It will get you from the very start and keep you there! It will make a great movie! The ending is one of the best I've ever read! 5***** Faith Ann Carroll Proofreader/Copyeditor FaithAnn14@aol.com Thank you Faith Ann. Anastasia.

"The Seiners - A Review from Marilyn Thompson" If a picture is worth a thousand words then The Seiners is the entire museum. Anastasia Cassella-Young brings the story to life with imagery that jumps off the page and comes to life in the mind of the reader. I loved this story. Johnny was someone I found that evoked many emotions in me from pride to disappointment. He is believable and following him through the many changes of his personality as he grew both personally and in business was a thrill ride for me. Every success, every disappointment, everything he felt, I felt. I found myself both cheering him and crying for him. The characters were so multi-dimensional I found it difficult to believe they were fictitious. The speed at which the story moved was amazing and when I had finished reading I was left with a sense of loss. The term “The Great American Novel” definitely applies here. Johnny is a young man about to graduate high school. Johnny lives in a small fishing... More > village on Granite Island just off the coast of Maine. His father emigrated here many years before from Italy, and has made a living for his family fishing the waters ever since. It seems that his future has been all planned out by his father and older brother. Their plan is for Johnny to go to college and be a doctor or lawyer. The plan changes when Johnny’s father is left disabled after an accident on the boat the day before Johnny’s graduation. Johnny, only nineteen takes on the responsibility for the family. He makes a deal with a merchant named Roy Wolfe for the use of Roy’s seining boat The Sophie. Johnny proves himself to be a very successful seiner during the first season making more than fourteen thousand dollars for himself. Johnny has a natural talent for business and soon, through wise investments and some rather questionable personal choices begins gaining control over the Island’s economy. Success however does not come without making enemies and Johnny has made a few. Frank Miller is one of these enemies. Johnny has all but driven Miller’s company out of business and also inflected personal humiliation on Miller in public. Miller will do anything to destroy Johnny and takes it too far when he tries to kill two of Johnny’s employees. John and James have been working with Johnny since he first got The Sophie and they are two of his best friends so Johnny cannot let the attempt on their lives pass. Johnny contacts his Uncle Vittorio who has been in the “import/export” business for many years. Vittorio tells Johnny later on that the men he works with would require a favor in return for their help. Ignoring his father’s pleas to drop the whole thing Johnny makes the deal and Frank Miller ceases to be a problem, in his place a bigger problem arises and Johnny must find a way out that will keep his family alive. The dignity that Johny's mother showed in her final hours leads you into this wonderful tail of the struggle one man must do to help his family. A very engaging read.
