This book is intelligent, entertaining, and deeply moving all at the same time. In less than a hundred pages you walk away fully immersed in the world of Maxim, the main character, and feeling that you will never quite be able to leave it. I am certain that the book would be equally enjoyable for readers of any level of familiarity with life in the former Soviet Union, from those who went through it themselves to those experiencing this type of world for the first time.

I read Anatol Wolf's book Shtrihi na Granite with great pleasure. Being myself from the former Soviet Union I recognized many aspects of life in my homeland back there and It makes me appreciate even more my freedoms and opportunities to develop myself in any direction I desire. Anatol as an artist in Russia dreamed of creative freedom and in this book he portrays his character like a bird in a cage trying to escape from boundaries and unpredictability of the Soviet life. Very honest portrayal of the gloom and doom of that period Soviet Union. Highly recommended !!!
