The emergence of social media has been one of the biggest trends in the Internet world during the last few years. It is no longer a matter of choice for companies to use social media or not. The company will be discussed on social media whether they take part or not. In Switzerland, companies are at an early stage and started only a few years ago to recognize the need to integrate social media in their communication. This study presents a qualitative analysis of 25 interviews with Heads of Communications, Digital Directors, Social Media Managers and other people from 21 different multinational companies present in Switzerland. A new framework defining the key elements for the social media success, which is leading to the company success, as well as the internal social media usage, was developed. This master thesis helps companies realize where they stand and how they can tame social media.
