Set in the moors of Devon, England in the mid 1800's...

Attempts to arrest them by human means failed. A supernatural force takes form in the shape of a black Mastiff, known as The Hound, and its companion, The Raven. Each had its own reason for being rid of the Stickles..."

This is a really great book. The story is eerie and enchanting at the same time. I could not put down the book once i started. I could see this story turned into a film and directed by Tim Burton. Really really good read.
A good read set in a time and place well suited to the mystery and terror of the story. Interesting twists and turns and a collection of quite realistic characters. Balorbane is written in the classic style - descriptive prose, realistic conversation & actions and just enough darkness to make you leave a light on...
