Both Carlton's characters as well as her stories are heartbreaking, moving and not easily forgotten. I borrowed a copy, and I am buying my own. I look forward to going back and reading it over and over.

Angela Carlton is a great storyteller and these are all amazing stories; engaging and well paced. “Between The Clouds” is a work of extraordinary creativity. Each story draws you in immediately and keeps you in it’s grips until the very last word. Her stories can hit on a very personal level or cause you to empathize and really think, trying to put yourself in the position of the characters. You feel the pain, struggle, hope, humor and are drawn into their world! Angela has a very unique talent and has a true gift for writing. If you don’t read any other collection of fictional short stories this year, this is a definite MUST READ! “Between The Clouds” does not have a bad offering in it, and it would be difficult to single out any one as the very best!!

A beautiful book: careful, precise literary fiction with a deep humor and sharp edge -- these stories stick with you, for life. This sassy southern-set collection of stories could have easily wound up being presented to the world by any major publishing house, and I hope everyone who buys or downloads knows that they're getting some of the best, truest, most meaningful writing that can be found in America today. Carlton has published all over the place and has many devoted fans on the internet -- many of us would like to see her reach a wider audience, but the truth is her stories are so profoundly personal-seeming that it's like sitting down and talking to a friend, and a lot of what is out there these days is so cold and pretentious -- Carlton's writing is all heart, humor, and truth. These are the stories we read for.

Angela has a unique talent for creating a very deep sub-plot within her characters... for being just short stories, I find myself wondering, long after reading, what else was going on "behind the scenes". Her stories draw you in on a personal level, and tease you with the hidden, bigger picture. What I thought was going to be a quick read became something more...well done! cj
