"Highly Recommended! Practical strategies for all classrooms..." Angela outlines the learning habits and attitudes that our students need in order to become skilled learners, critical thinkers, and successful members of the workplace after completing their education. These "Habitudes" as Angela refers to them, include: Imagination Curiosity Self-Awareness Perseverance Courage Adaptability The book is structured in a way that makes it easy for a classroom teacher to incorporate strategies everyday in the classroom to help build these skills in students. Each chapter introduces a habitude and provides the reader with a rationale behind the habitude, conversation starters for the classroom, sample lessons (yes, in every chapter), additional points for continuing the dialogue, "take aways", reflection questions, and additional resources. The book does not have to be read in a linear fashion -- the reader/teacher can flip to any chapter and read them in any... More > order they prefer. I want to also add that the value in this book is not limited to its classroom applications. Campus and district leaders can use this book to reflect on how their interactions with teachers and other campus leaders reflect the development of these skills. Do we model the development and practice of imagination, curiosity, self-awareness, perseverance, courage, and (most importantly today) adaptability when we interact with one another as professionals? Do we model what we want to see in our classrooms with regard to the development of these habitudes? Classroom Habitudes: How to teach 21st century learning habits and attitudes provides exactly what I like to find in a book - lots of practical strategies that I can implement right away. Theory is always essential, but when it is combined with concrete steps for changing practice then the potential for transfer to the classroom is increased, and that is exactly what Angela Maiers has provided in writing and publishing this new resource for educators.< Less
