Easy Street (Kindle/PDF Edition) : a Guide for Players in Improvised Interactive Environmental Performance, Walkaround Entertainment, and First-Person Historical Interpretation
eBook (PDF), 217 Pages
EASY STREET is a guide for players in improvised interactive environmental performance, walkaround entertainment, and first-person historical reenacting. It’s also about much, much more than that, because the principles of effective Street play apply to any situation involving connections between people: sellers and customers, teachers and students, service providers and clients, programmers and end-users, co-workers, teammates, and fellow members of Leagues of Superheroes thrive wildly when these principles are in play. A-E Shapera has performed and taught at Shakespeare festivals, Renaissance Faires, fringe festivals and historical reenactments for over twenty years. Her walkaround character, Jane the Phoole, has performed by invitation at England's Muncaster Castle, home to the original "Tom Fool," and is the Official Municipal Jester of the City of Milwaukee. With a pithy blurb by bestselling author Christopher Moore!

Mar 15, 2012If Gary Izzo's "The Art of Play" is your college professor for Street Theater 101, then A-E's "Easy Street" is the hip teaching assistant that takes all that information and puts it into terms that today's modern student can understand and, more importantly, Relate. This book is a transcription of the time A-E took me to a coffee shop and gently reminded me that everyone is still a human being whether or not they wear the "actor" veneer. Well, it would be a transcription if I'd ever had coffee with A-E. Nevertheless, A-E approaches Street Theater with a humble (low dominance - see chapter 4) conversational style that this genre has lacked for years. Whereas previous tomes simply said "If you do this then you will have an emotional reaction with the audience," A-E has drawn upon her 20 years of experience and used real-life examples so that you feel that emotional reaction While You Are Reading. I laughed a carbonated beverage through my nose at... More > the description of her costume as a Dalek, and wept with joy and understanding when she reminded me not to waste myself with inaction. Although there are times where chapters wander off like a concerned porcupine, they always return at the end for the juicy fruit treat of Making it Worth it for you, the reader/audience. This simple idea, Making it Worth it, will change how the public perceives street entertainers... but only if we embrace it. Easy Street just may be the book that revolutionizes Street Theater. Not bad for "Just One Girl." -Julie McMillin Publicity and Social Media Director Renaissance Entertainment Productions< Less
