There are several novels that pose the question "How much are you willing to do for love?", but I always found that they were mostly exaggerated, either too inclined towards romance or driven to action or some other element that not always fitted in the narrative. However, in this case, I found that the story was well grounded and applied several aspects from real life that we could have gone through ourselves or have heard of someone who had to deal with such trials. The story revolves around Kathleen and Graham, a married couple that have lived through many ordeals, and just when you think that things can't get worse, Graham suffers a stroke and Kathleen is left on her own to deal with matters, as her in-laws abandon her and Graham to their fate. They then decide to move to Cornwall, to lead a quieter life, and things seem to settle down, until the arrival of an alcoholic parent that puts things on its head again, pushing Kathleen to the limit. In this dark tale of family... More > feuds and hardship, you will truly be thinking what you would do in situations like these, and just how far you would go for the one you love.< Less

What an excellent work of fiction, absolutely loved it. Very dark and unexpected, especially with the unexpected twist at the end. Particularly liked the way the Anne Ashcroft wrote the book from the angle of the good Christian but struggling wife Kathleen who is forced to deal with a mother in law from hell!
