    Of just as much interest to the the student of history as the collector of Notgeld, "Tarnished Gems" looks at this distasteful facet of European history from a most unusual perspective. Some of the notes are almost (worryingly) playful in their use of anti-Semitic stereotypes, others are the most virulent examples of rhetoric and hatred; taken as a whole, this collectors' category of currency note educates and informs us of the prerequisites for the rise and rise of post-Versailles anti-Semitic German nationalism. The more universal appeal of this, Tony Gibbs-Murray's third volume makes it a more likely better-seller and I wouldn't be surprised to see it being referenced in future histories of Weimar Germany, this aspect of the era having been to my knowledge largely ignored so far.
