Unconscious Desire: Sensitive Experience And Ideals

ByAntoine Réaud

Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
Over the years, cinema has always defined our ideals, be it Ideal characteristics, lifestyles, fashion and architecture. Aesthetic beauty and desire not only depend on individual taste and sensibility, but also matters of culture. Indeed our society through medias and cultural conventions defines what we are sensible of, what makes something or someone considered beautiful or not. The first part of this book tries to define the cinematic and photographic conventions in order to create an “ideal” image, motion. Then through two movies, The Ghost Writer and A Single Man, we will see how directors go way beyond or even ignore those rules in order to create desire in their own. Besides we will try to figure out, through the Vals spa and the Stahl house, how architects use the same processes-or others- to generate this same desire. To conclude we can ask ourselves how, as architect, can we increase desire through our buildings according to the precedent studies.
