Writing is something that drives me. I am not sure where it comes from but as I walk down streets I often find myself hearing conversations and wanting to use them. Visual images, like a lonely tattoo on someone’s arm can ignite an idea for a story, while lyrics from songs often set my mind racing with ideas. These ideas often swirl around my mind urging me to sit down and write them. It takes a lot of time to develop characters and plan out projects, but this book was slightly different in its origins. I set out to experiment with free writing, taking a blank canvas and throwing ideas at it until I found a character or story I wanted to follow. Then I would go back and edit it in order to make it work. In most cases these stories were written in one sitting. I see this collection of works as more like a collage of quirky encounters with stencilled characters struggling through familiar worlds and battling universal feelings like love, loss, happiness, sadness, loneliness.
