The I AM Sayings of Jesus

Eight motets as recorded by TONUS PEREGRINUS on Hyperion CDA67668, and now available in this beautiful printed edition for all good choirs and vocal ensembles. The cycle is framed by 'Before Abraham was, I AM' and 'I AM Alpha and Omega', and in-between are the seven sayings from John’s Gospel: 'I AM the Bread of Life', 'I AM the Resurrection and the Life', 'I AM the Light of the World', 'I AM the Way, the Truth, and the Life', 'I AM the True Vine', and 'I AM the Door – I AM the Good Shepherd'. Each motet is for a different number of voices (from 1 to 8), and focuses on a different melodic interval; there is a common harmonic core to the cycle and an exploration of related rhythmic and structural ratios.
