Management Challenges In The Competence-based Organization

ByArjan Vernhout

Competence-based management is a relative new way of thinking about how organizations gain high performance for a significant period of time. Competence-based management originates from the theory of competence-based strategic management. The focus of this article is on the specific challenges management faces when applying competence-based strategic management for the realisation of organization goals and objectives, in order to develop sustainable competitive advantage. A theoretical framework in combination with a step-by-step plan has been developed. The step-by-step plan includes the main challenges which are related to the strategic application of competence-based management. These challenges are explained by means of eight (process) phases. Before continuing with these eight phases, the theory of competence-based management is explained in more detail.
