"Sketches of Murder" is a journey into the darkside of human nature. My goal is not to frighten, but, rather to enlighten. To show violence to end violence. Sketches of murder is my way of expressing."Enough Already."

Sketches of Murder is a captivating look at a very dark period in Detroit's history. A writer with a message, Arnold Hannon takes the reader through five troubling decades of Detroit history, weaving together newspaper headlines and his analysis. Hannon recounts over 240 murders from newspaper stories in the Detroit News, Detroit Free Press, Michigan Chronicle, and Detroit Times. Clearly troubled by the accepted status of murder in Detroit (and, indeed, around the nation), Hannon writes from a broken heart but a hopeful spirit. Sketches of Murder is written conversationally, but it is hardly an easy read. Hannon reminds us that victims are people, and challenges perpetrators that when a person chooses to murder another person, he ends not one life but two. Detroit residents will recognize their city in these stories. Often, streets and neighbors are mentioned by name. Historians will value the chronological design of the book. Divided by decade, the newspaper accounts are presented in... More > the order they were published. Young people who read this book will be challenged to solve relational problems peacefully rather than by ending two lives.< Less
