The Council

At 1:32 am, Donald Stevens slinked to the Oval Office and deflated into his chair. Nothing was going as it should. It wasn’t supposed to be like this. He needed to get away from the madness. Scrunching his eyes shut, the beaten man tried to muster courage for what he was about to do. He reached for the receiver, hesitated briefly before dialling Admiral Liam Scarborough. Knowing how impatient the rogue Admiral was for the order to strike, he hanged up before the phone could ring. Now sitting alone in the darkness of his greatest dream, the president desperately wracked his brain for a reason not to make the call. Finding no valid reason to prolong the inevitable, the Donald picked up the receiver and forever changed the course of the United States of America.
