I came across this while looking for books about Italy for an upcoming trip. As a big reader of historical novels, I bought All the Sea on the strength of the previous review. What a treat! Loads of historical detail and characters you grow to love and loathe. The different threads of the story are presented in quite short sections, so it's the kind of book you can dip in and out of if you don't have long stretches of reading time. It focuses mainly on the Ottoman Empire, but perhaps unsurprisingly given the period, Italy gets a look-in as well. Bonus!

This is a carefully researched and tightly written historical novel that ranges around the trading routes of 15th-century Europe and Turkey. Each port brings a new plot twist that is satisfyingly untangled at the end.
