While I'm not really a history buff, this little gem of a book really had me spellbound. It made life aboard a merchant ship during WWII incredibly real. It also highlights a little known branch of our armed forces--the US Merchant Marine--and the sacrifices made by its members. Thank you B.L. Smith for bringing this chapter in our history to life.

As someone who is quite interested in history, Lost in the Greenland Gap was a joy to discover. The narrative uses my favorite form of historical fiction to tell it's story. The characters are unique and the writing style clever. I learned and absorbed much from the first person view of Smith's experiences aboard the S.S. Calliope. I heartily recommend this page turner—especially to anyone with even mild interest in World War II or history in general.
