What a poignant, sad and happy book, combining remembrances and historical events to tell the story of one family and to describe the warmth and support that families in the past enjoyed. It is written by a talented author who obviously feels pride in reflecting on her family's past and naturally engenders each character with a unique personality that comes to life as the pages are turned. Full of humor, yet honest in recalling the difficulties of life in America in the early twenty-first century, it is a must-read for anyone wanting to be entertained, as well as encouraged, as they experience their own family dramas.

What a charming little book! The delightful little girl who is the heroine invites you into a world of nearly gritty life events but somehow maintains her innocence and joy in living. It was a treat to be able to follow Caroline from her tragic early childhood to the renaissance of her wedding. The book also brings some details of the 1930's alive with stunning clarity and allows the reader a glimpse into some of the family fun that lay beneath the hardship of the Depression. It is certainly a book that emphasizes family and the love that flows through the generations. A must-read for those long winter days when family traditions become the backdrop of activity and fun.
