Nov 29, 2015High praise for this newly-discovered author! Peg McGill's life comes alive in these pages, capturing the reader in the complex web that frames this incredible woman's life. Barbara was clearly able to connect on a deep level with her mother's past-and-present, successfully spinning the yearn gradually so the reader feels connected to Peg through the many layers of her life, woven intricately by both the challenges and joys God continues to place in her path. This book is a testimony to how God shaped this faith-filled woman with a constancy of love and faith that has allowed her to touched the lives of so many people in all walks of life. I couldn't put it down, and look forward to Barbara continuing the saga in a future editions to capture how the many eddies of Peg's journey affect our world-at-large.
Dec 30, 2013What a fun book that really sucked me in. Barb does a super job painting a picture that is Peggy's life. There were many great take-aways throughout, but I particularly enjoyed learning about Peggy and Loyal's courtship and life together. There is much to aspire to from this story about a life well lived and always with God at its center. When I grow up, I want to be like Peggy!
Dec 9, 2013Couldn't put it down! Read in one sitting! I will not be surprised if someday I turn on the Hallmark channel to find Mavourneen on the screen. Her life has not gone unnoticed. She has touched so many hearts and Barbara has told it as it is. You are kept in suspense wondering what will happen next. There was never a dull moment and God's strength has accompanied her spirit through it all. Reading about one of God's beloved and soulmate is a testimony to God's presence and love for us all.
Dec 2, 2013The wonderfully, creatively documented story of Peg Stoyell in her early years. The writer also lets us glimpse her insight from the advantage of age. this book will be reread and reread.
Nov 23, 2013Fabulous. Couldn't put it down. Beautiful prose conveying the inspiring story of the youth, adolescence and then young adult life of Peggy McGill until her marriage to Jim Stoyell. Those who know her, and those who are introduced to her through this book, get a glimpse into the heart and mind of Peggy in her youth and Peg Stoyell in her 87th year as the author weaves the story of early years with episodes from a Spring 2012 trip to visit her children and their families living in the Northeast U.S. Peg has obviously revealed details and emotions to the writer that had been kept to herself for decades and so we get a vivid insight into this woman of faith and how she has come through setbacks that could have been devastating and continues to embrace life and make a positive impact on each member of her ever expansive extended family as well as those who have become neighbors to her from diverse backgrounds and nations.
