Michael Curtiz was the most successful film director of all time.
His importance only began to be appreciated after his death, as his Casablanca assumed the central place in our awareness of Hollywood. Curtiz also did the great Errol Flynn adventures, film noir's Mildred Pearce, Jimmy Cagney and Elvis Presley's greatest hits, the first Hungarian film, more movies in Technicolor than any other director. His passion for his work is unmistakable.
Barrie Pattison and John Howard Reid have delved into the great wealth of the Curtiz films - an intimidating two hundred of them - to explore these, their times and the man who created them.
