A wonderful wholesome book, full of personality, experience and humour that makes an easy read on the often deemed complex topic of religion. An insight into a somewhat exclusive world, this piece offers an warm account of times now lost, such as the rich community of rural village and the characters that lived in them. Thoroughly enjoyed and recommend to anyone with a theological background, and also to anyone who loves a clever, and fun read.

This is a real heart warming and humorous insight into the life of a pastor. Each story brings a chuckle and often a belly laugh as the author gives us all a really personal view of the characters, mishaps and his own soul searching as he attends to his flock. The bubbling baptistery is a real tonic and never work with children and animals ever known as a common phrase ... read to find out why!! :-) An enjoyable and entertaining read, no matter what your religious path, or indeed of you have none!

In Parsonal Diary, Barrie Petterson has light-heartedly captured the ethos of many Churches, especially but not exclusively those within the Baptist denomination. The book is full of people seen and described with Barrie’s wry humour which allows for gentle caricature without malice. Seasoning with BP’s cartoons emphasizes that this is a book to be read with a smile, though as is the case with all good humour there are insights offered which are worthy of attention. Although the experience of those who people this book come from some thirty to fifty years ago, anyone with an ounce of Barry’s perceptive nature will recognise them and their foibles still alive in many churches today. This is not a book for the narrow-minded, but for anyone who believes God must have a sense of humour to let us be the funny people we are. Parsonal Diary is an enjoyable and rewarding read. And if, like me, you happen to be an ex Rawdon student it is a MUST READ.
