Told from a teenager's point of view, this is the inspiring story of Baruch Talbott, a young orphan who grew up in the crosshairs of the Second Liberian Civil War near the turn of the 21st century. The fast-paced book is arranged in short chapters that capture pivotal moments in Talbott's life, including unspeakable terror that tested his courage and resolve. His challenges continued after he moved to America at the age of nine. Reminiscent of his African heritage, Talbott recited his memories aloud and Debby Coughlan brought them to life with her written interpretation. The heartwarming, sincere account will inspire readers of all ages.

If you are looking for something for a high school Sunday school class, a youth group or young-reader book club to read, this is the book! I think it could generate a lot of interesting discussion about faith, courage, family, friendship, racism, war, and acceptance. And kudos to Lulu.com! I ordered several copies as Christmas presents on the 22nd and expected to receive them after the New Year, but they arrived on the 24th! What a pleasant surprise!
I encourage people of all ages especially highschool teenagers and up to read this book, it has given me a new view on life and his story is very inspirational.
I read the entire book in one sitting. I could not put it down. It is a quick and easy read. Moving and inspiring it makes me want to give more of myself. The insight from the adopted child perspective is thought provoking particularly if you are considering adoption but is also very identifiable for all teens. We often can't control what happens to us but we can control how we respond to it and what we take from every experience. The message from the book is clear. This is how God molds and shapes us so we can be His instruments to help others.
In the Middle of the Line is a must read for teenagers and adults! Baruch's story takes the reader on his physical journey from Liberia as well as his journey to find his place in the world. We get a glimpse into the soul of this young man and can take away life lessons of our own. Anyone considering international adoption will find his moving story provides a critical prospective from the eyes and heart of a child.
