Excellent gift book! One cannot praise too highly the work and style of this author. With heartfelt love for every ancestor the story of Beaver Creek, Louisiana as it relates to the families in this book (Hinson, Smith, Leggett, Ardoin) Mr. Leggett has created a book that will be relevant and valuable for generations. In the three sections I learned stories about these families and locales, viewed amazing photographs from the last century, and read detailed but clearly summarized genealogical records. In the area of genealogy Mr. Leggett was honored with help from an expert in genealogical research, Mrs. Peggy Stevenson of Pine Prarie, Louisiana. From his home in Rapides parish Mr. Leggett reaches out across the centuries (literally) and brings a time and way of life back to us in a form we can cherish and value. I recommend this book for all the relatives of any of these family members, to citizens of the Oakdale, Glenmora, Ville Platte, Pine Prarie, (etc.) and to all who love living... More > vibrant history. It is the book you'll want to give a copy to each of your kids. It is a book to share with members of the family who have no knowledge of their heritage as it is inclusive and not ever snobbish, always accurate and each element humanized and made warm, vivid and alive. This book is now in second edition, many more genealogical charts and data as well as increase narrative about the families covered. The new addition has new photographs in it, and makes a fabulous present. I have bought many and given them away and the response is uaually an email or phone call to ask me where they can get more copies to give to relatives. It is a book of fairly wide circulation in just one year. The HISTORICAL VALUE of this book is enormous. Libraries in the area need to have a copy. Written and executed by Benny Leggett, this book is so well organized that anyone thinking of writing similar material about their own families should look at this book and use it as a model of haw to write a family history that is expansive and covers generations of multiple families. It's the best!< Less
