After a deadly crash, high-school student Sam Appleton awakens to find everyone treating him as if he has a mental handicap. Even though he didn‘t really have brain damage, he follows along and quickly finds himself in a frightening and appalling place: the world of a mentally handicapped individual.
Sam makes friends -- some from his special education class and others from the general population. But his work to unite his classmates is met with significant resistance from students and some parents.
Benjamin Archambault writes beautiful characters and keeps things relevant and entertaining with this important work about social justice. This book has been used in college classrooms and read in private collections. It is appropriate for high school aged children through adult.
