Mar 4, 2012When this book arrived, I read it from cover to cover immediately. It was funny and easy to read. The voice in the book is excellent, more like having a friend cooking with you than a distant cook giving you instructions. The pictures are very helpful, and the stories that go with each recipe make them seem homey and familiar. Highly recommended!
Jul 29, 2011If you enjoyed watching Ben on Masterchef, you will enjoy this book. It reads just like Ben speaks, and was clearly written with passion from the heart. It tells wonderful stories about family and food and how they intertwine. If you are a new cook, someone who would like to learn, or someone who like cookbooks at all, read this one. He has a terrific way of teaching basic techniques with easy to follow pictures. He'll have you making homemade ravioli on day one. This is one of those books that shows that no one has any excuses for not cooking, and enjoying every minute.
Oct 15, 2009"Delectable!!!" I saw Ben on the Rachael Ray Show and fell in love with him. When I found out he had a cookbook, I bought it immediately. As soon as it arrived, I sat down and read it cover to cover. I laughed, I cried, and then I was hungry. It was amazing! He went from teaching me some really simple basics, many of which I already knew, but some of which totally surprised me, to telling me how to make my own ravioli from scratch. Wow! The old photos are so beautiful. It made me think about my own family and want to reconnect with the stories behind my family recipes. The instructional photos in the book really help. I learned how to separate an egg without getting my hand all eggy. I learned how to make a healthy, delicious, flaky pie crust in less than 10 minutes. (I tried it, and just like he said, it was foolproof.) I also loved the photos throughout the book of Ben and his chickens who live in his suburban backyard. No telling what his neighbors must think! Nov 20, 2007"Great Book!" I am enjoying Ben's "Food for Thought Volume I: From Newbie to Expert..." I agree that every recipe has a story. When I think about certain members of my family, I associate a food or recipe with them. I love the fact that Ben's book has recipes and stories. The photography of food preparation as well as family members is wonderful. I had the pleasure of meeting Ben recently. The book has all of the "ingredients" for success and I bet you'll enjoy it as well!
