This book contains genealogical extracts from minutes of three of the earliest Baptist churches in the state of Mississippi: Antioch, New Zion and Silver Creek. These churches, in the 19th century, were located in Marion and Pike Counties. Antioch is no longer extant, New Zion is currently in Walthall County and Silver Creek remains in Pike County. These extracts include, among other things, records of deaths and marriages, the recording of disciplinary actions against individual church members, and dates of admission and dismissal. The African-American researcher will find these minutes unique, in that they record lists and narratives of enslaved members.
