This is the perfect summer read. Fun, flirty, with some frights thrown in for good measure. Plenty of local Seattle references to make denizens of the Emerald City smile and intrigue non-denizens. This is a supernatural thriller, but what I found most satisfying was the deep and profound friendship between Owen and Orchid at the heart of this adventure. We follow them as they together confront a series of underworld threats and challenges, and separately as they navigate their own complicated lives and loves. Their story concludes in a surprising and satisfying way. A recommended read!

Considering I have read hundreds of paranormal thrillers over the years, I usually am hesitant to read new book about ghosts, vampires or the supernatural. To be drawn into a new universe, with its own sets of rules and superstitions is always hard let alone believable. From the moment you pick up the book, you realize you entered into that new world with its own set of rules, different than other supernatural thrillers, but easily believable yet still fantastical. The story opens to the tone of the whole book; Sex, Ghosts and lots of Questions. The main characters are easy to follow along a journey that is spooky at times, exciting at times, dorky at times and even really sexy at times. If you are hesitant to have a little illicit fun mingled with your ghost stories then this isn't your jam. The illicit fun is quite often gay in nature, but there is definitely enough heterosexual sexual tension between Orchid and Raj to hold your attention if that is your thing. I definitely long for... More > a sequel to find out where Owen (the lead) goes after the book ends, and can even see an HBO series to rival the mantle of 'True Blood'. I guess the only thing that was missing(for me) from this book is enough back story on this universe's demon characters and what rules they play by. That is why this is crying out for a prequel or even a sequel.< Less
