Tommy Einish, a speaker of the Naskapi language and an elder who has always been dear to our family, became a surrogate grandfather ("Numushum") to all of us, especially me. Tommy really did take me goose hunting, on several occasions, following the traditional procedures described in this storybook. The book began as a final project for the SIL UND Literacy principles course that Bill participated in during the summer of 2012. Tommy and his wife Annie have passed on and we will miss them. I illustrated the story from snapshots that I actually took while goose hunting with Tommy. This edition is rendered in ink, coloured pencil and crayons. The translation and spelling has been reviewed by the language department at the Naskapi Development Corporation. This is the sixth book of a series that represents a significant improvement in the quality of early literacy materials available in the Naskapi language. As more of these titles are developed and placed into the hands of... More > eager early readers and their parents and caregivers, we have great expectations for improvement in the literacy skills for the next generation. This book features predictable repetition of sequences and an outline of the seasons of the year. We strongly recommend the use of this book as your precious little ones are introduced to reading in Naskapi.< Less
