If you go along the picturesque Cote d’Azur in search of “Elounda”, the Provençal house, depicted in this story, you are not going to find it. Yet it exists; in another dimension, or in a parallel Universe, there is a villa “Elounda”, exactly as described. The people that reside in it similarly exist in a different timeline. It’s unlikely that you will ever meet them, but who knows, they might, just might pay you an unexpected visit one day to return yours.

"Tales from the Future" Tales from the Future – review Jan 2009 This is an outstandingly inventive book that presents a myriad of new ideas. It also seamlessly unites very different time periods while also gently poking fun at present day preconceptions. It is a world away from traditional science-fiction and should appeal to everyone; not just the sci-fi fan. It has none of the geekie sci-fi techie hang-ups that bedevil so much science fiction but has real, believable characters who use the technology of their day in their everyday lives – it is no big deal. At its heart the book links a near-present day with a future world; the device used; terminally ill patients put in cold-storage to be revived at a time when medical science has advanced enough to cure them; may not be original but is effective. The two leading characters, Sylvia and the prince, thus link our world to the future. A prince? In fact the two characters are well chosen; Sylvia, an ordinary girl from... More > Anglo-French stock and the prince, from an aristocracy never clearly defined but somewhat British manners, giving two contrasting perspectives. Sylvia and the prince come to stay with Sophia, a future relative of Sylvia. Julian, an inventor, is busy conducting time experiments. He has a machine that allows you to pass forward or back in time, but only to see it through the eyes of someone in that time. All four of them take part in these time experiences witnessing events in the life of Sylvia and Sophia’s family. Against this background, the relationships of the characters develop, we learn of their backgrounds, the times they live in and how these beginnings of time travel lead to a direct link with the future. During the journey the author cleverly interposes the narrative with excerpts and resources from this fictional world; extracts from diaries and novels, quotes and articles from official reports and internet resources. They all have their place in telling the story and in presenting a very credible future (or futures).< Less
