A fear of shadows, haunting nightmares, void existence, and powers they can’t control is all that the gifted children have known for the past year, as they each try hopelessly to rebuild their lost lives.
The shadow watches them fight and watches them dance, struggling in vain to keep hold of their sanity, and the shadow smiles.
Turn the lights down, and scream in silence.

Jan 23, 2012This impressive first work of up-and-coming novelist Blake Bouza is a delightful and thought-provoking read. While it borrows heavily from comic book-esque archetypes (idealistic villain, evil henchmen, super-powered team of justice, etc.), it also takes the standard story and gives it a facelift. What if you not only sympathized with the villain, but also half agreed with him? What if your rag tag group of protagonists consisted of exiles, a criminal, and an amnesiac who may or may not be completely insane? It is perhaps more of a young adult novel than anything else, but even seasoned readers will find that with all the right amounts of love, hate, friendship, agony, and reluctant heroism, this story is at its very core... good. I know I did.

Jan 23, 2012Imagine a story that's part X-men, and part psychological thriller that keeps you hooked from the beginning. This book is addictive, Dark and sinister without trying, with dynamic, relate-able characters that drive the story perfectly. You'll love Kyle as much as you love Shade, and you'll be engrossed by the plot that unfolds as the story runs, leaving you in excited anticipation for each chapter. Incredibly easy to read, though still engaging for the intellectual reader. Highly recommended for anyone who likes stories that are both unique, and well written. Calling this a great book written by a teenager wouldn't be fair. In fact, it wouldn't be fair to call this anything but just a great book. Awesome!
