Something like the fabled mythical Makaya court annals, this here is indeed a rare text by Sir Frisvold, providing perspectives pertaining to primal, rasin strata of Vodun, thereby estabilishing itself as a wellcome unicum in the steadily growing field of African studies. When I started working with the Collegia Adytum Azothos lessons, I was as green as any Nophyte, yet my subsequent growth bears testimony to the fact that with de Mattos, we are in presence of an Spirit alive and scintillating. It is not just the Houngan, who authored these words, but a shrewd pedagogue to boot, one who leads the aspirant all the way through the mysterious seas of the lwa- right into the embrace of the Marassa, all the Way to the Golden Silence of their mouths - clasped in a Kiss; all this with the sure, philosophical (in)sight of one matching all and any capitains. As the proverb says: "The whale is the soul of God." And gladening indeed is the love of the Bo Houngan, that decided to share his grace with us.
