It is a quick and easy read, with a plot hard to put down. The combination of adventure, love and action leaves you hanging for more. It guides you through a unique story of an honest yet naive man who is determined to figure things out with the help of good friends. It has ups and downs, and twists you don’t expect yet in the end it all ties together nicely. I do hope there is a sequel to figure out what happens next!

A great and entertaining read. Finer delivers a fascinating adventure taking you on unique journey filled with the history, sights and culture of Key West as the background. Completing the book will most assuredly leave you wanting for an island adventure or getaway of your own. Culinary details are also well done, so read at your risk when hungry. Highly recommended.

I classify this novel as the author's "coming out" party, of sorts. His early works display his talent to tell a unique story, but "The Skin of Rum and Salt" exemplifies Bob's growing confidence as an author. This book takes you on many unpredictable twists and turns while the details educate you without you even knowing it. I am excited to see what the author will produce next.

OK full disclosure, I know the author from previous unrelated work. Having stated that, I will say if anything it skewed my expectations, ie... I didn't expect a great read. I read for entertainment and education, switching from fiction to non-fiction. This book covered a bit of both. Starting with the characters development, this book takes you on a journey and really involves you in what your thinking, seeing, feeling. From the searching for significance theme to the "do the right thing" approach this is an exciting ride. I couldn't put it down. I didn't expect to want to visit the area and see the water and feel the culture the way I did. Finer - great book!

"I knew that now, reading it in my oversensitized state of mind after much too much brandy, I would remember it somewhere, and afterwards it would seem as though it had really happened to me. I would always have it." - Hemingway. Words I had previously read but not truly understood until finishing "Skin of Rum and Salt". Bob Finer is an author's author. His staccato rhythm takes the reader along on a quest for sunken treasure through a delightfully visual depiction of Key West. A journey more about one's inherent desire to escape than the pursuit of lost gold. His ability to seamlessly weave the words of a novel with one's intrinisic desires is a trait seldom found in modern literature. Hemingway understood this, Buffett capitalized on it, and Finer has made it his own. "Skin of Rum and Salt" is transportative literature and provides an experience not easily forgotten.
