A genuine Renaissance man of the twenty-first century, Dr. Balla straddles effortlessly three cultures (African, French and American). This has enabled him to produce a strikingly original and profoundly perceptive collection of lyric poems ("odes")celebrating extraordinary African and African American individuals (the "Black Diamonds") who have made exceptional contributions to the arts and sciences, as well as to politics, from Cheikh Anta Diop and Aime Cesaire to Martin Luther King, Jr., Nelson Mandela and Barack Obama. This unique volume will be of special interest to the litterati with a taste for a highly sophisticated form of cross-cultural poetry.

Dr. Balla has created a very attractive book that chronicles the achievements of celebrated personalities in a poetic fashion. I believe the use of each person's name - from Denzel Washington to Osende Afana to Steve Biko - as an acrostic is a very unique and entertaining way to commemorate these Multicultural Icons. Dr. Balla is a unique individual himself ( speaking seven languages ) and allows the reader to reflect with him on the contributions of our historical mentors and heroes in a novel way. The book itself is an extremely attractive volume and will make a nice addition to any library's collection. I believe that you will not regret purchasing this significant tome of ancestral respect and making it a part of your personal collection.
