India in Your Face: An Intimate E-mail Travelogue of a Young Woman's Adventure as a Spiritual Seeker
Join me as my intimate confidante on my journey as I travel through the holy cities, temples, and ashrams of South and North India for three months. Along the way I encounter flirty yoga teachers and profound swamis, hear the teachings of an American female guru, a Swiss Buddhist nun, and His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and explore the ideas of ultimate reality, enlightenment, and the questionable need for a spiritual teacher. While I taste-test Eastern spiritual paths I grapple with the issues of social responsibility and inequity, and the exclusivity of access to the sacred.
My trip is autobiographical and is catalogued through the actual emails I sent home to friends and family, which also include many poems I wrote along the way, which shed light on my experience through a different lens. I invite you into my shifting perspectives of beauty, material necessity, poverty, and India as a whole. Come along for the ride, and prepare to meet India full on, in your face!
