"Excellent book in every way" "Footprints in Time: A Walk in Sacajawea's Moccasins," by Bonnie Turner, is an excellent book retracing the Lewis and Clark exploration of the American West, from the perspective of Sacajawea. We read about Sacajawea and her baby, and we may see them on the obverse of our dollar coins, but we have the tendency to forget how young she was at the time. She was really only a child, not much older than the children who will be reading this book. "Footprints in Time" takes the reader on the expedition, using various adventures and happenings to bring across both the experiences and the feelings of the young guide and her baby. Her role in the expedition is not exaggerated nor minimized, and the hardships and challenges faced are realistic. "Footprints in Time" also benefits from careful attention to quality in its preparation. The illustrations compliment the text without overwhelming it, and the writing is first-rate.... Any child, especially girls, will be able to identify with the young, true-life heroine of "Footprints in Time."< Less
