This review is spoiler free. Found out about Lorenguard from a DJ on Metal Messiah Radio. Grabbed the album in January and proceeded to wear out my CD player with it. During this time I found out that the album is based on an upcoming book. Maybe the book is based on the album; either way it works. I bought the book on Lulu and shortly after grabbed the book for my preferred reading device (Kindle). I like this book a lot. I got a Glen Cook, "The Black Company" feel in the beginning. That feeling fades as I begin to feel like I'm reading an RPG Campaign's journal and not in a bad way. The character's are well thought out and not just a bunch of Mary Sues. The plot is strong, well-developed with a lot of complexities. One of the best compliments I can pay this book is that I've highlighted some 20 or so sections as idea mining. This book is, obviously, the first book in a series. While this book leaves you waiting for the next part of the story, it doesn't do so abruptly.... More > You'll feel like you got a whole story in the book but still want the next book. The only problem I had with this book is that it tries to be two different types of books. It has the depth to be a serious fantasy book but at times reads like an adventure fantasy book. That throws the pacing off at times. If you like dark fantasy you should buy this book.< Less
