"Blast off!" Review by John Pliotas (UNIVERSE PATHWAYS magazine and and This sophisticated e-book demands some extra attention. It is certainly not small, I would hardly consider it common, and most probably it is not the best solution for some bed time reading. Kate and the Angels of Xara is meant to keep you hooked each time you hold it in your hands and effectively introduce you to cosmos. Brendan Hanley began his writing career in a ripe age and this is his first full-length novel. He was working for almost three years on this project and it is the first part of a space trilogy which isn’t addressed only to the hard-core sci-fi digester. Moreover I would consider a large part of his book to be escape literature. In the year 2054, an artful girl with dynamic personality, goes against her mother’s strong will. Kate decides to walk on the footsteps of her... More > late aunt who was killed in a space tragedy. Kate joins up a famous, elite guild of space amazons, which through the years that followed the free space merchant, gained glory and power. The Angels of Xara, under the guidance of the elder Guardians, accomplish perilous journeys, and Kate’s career culminates as she becomes one of their most skillful pilots. Through her eyes we take a close watch to the next few years of her life, from the most pleasant moments to the most joyless. Finally the constant and keen competition for the space race shall bring her in front of her life’s greatest challenge: the most ambitious plan in human history. Hanley’s book is full of youth, vitality, emotions and firm, solid characters; without doubt one of its strong points. The writer claims that his book is addressed equally to teenagers and adults, and I couldn’t agree more myself. His handwriting is full of spirit, there are plenty of happy, awkward moments and I didn’t track down any dull or boring parts. I patiently read this large novel and I came to the conclusion that it’s a great value for money bargain. The reader who would like to follow Kate, may download it at the on-line bookstore as an e-book for only 5.5$ or to order it as a paperback for 20$ plus p&p from the USA. Note down that Kate and the Angels of Xara consists of about five hundred well written filling pages. Descriptive of his methodical and fine work is the appendix which includes numerous illustrations, technical diagrams and information which give the Angels’ space mission a plausible flavor. This work was done by Robert A. Braeunig in case you feel eager to plan your very own mission to space. Fasten your seat belts, prepare for countdown and blast off!< Less
