Extended edition of FOUR WHEELING including 40 pages of additional material. In 1964 Brian Bold hitchhikes from London to Geneva to find his fourth girlfriend and so begins a journey of over forty years. Driving more than twenty cars, nearly every one he's owned, he travels along the minor roads of personal fortune and the motorways of social and technological change. Travelling but never quite arriving, he breaks down on the way to the Beatles' Cavern Club in Liverpool on the night of Kennedy's assassination, races an Austin Maestro at the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit, has a secret meeting with John Major the Prime Minister, and dresses up in another man's clothes. Often hilarious, sometimes poignant, always engaging, these stories of a family, told through the car journeys they make, will probably provide echoes to your own driving history. Read this as a love story, a travelogue, a memoir,as well as perhaps a mirror of your own life's journeys.

"Road Works" I enjoyed this book. I was totally absorbed and could not put it down. The story is both a travelogue and a love story. The love of cars, especially the early ones in ones' life and similarly, the love of a wife and partner who shares the dreams, the cars, the problems and the journeys. There is much humour and I found myself laughing aloud in several sections. The book is full of nostalgia. It brings back the memories of those cars that we had in our youth and the relationships we formed with them and the people that were knew or met in those times and the journeys we made with them.

"ROAD WORKS - Drives of a Lifetime" This is what I call a good read. I read it at bedtime for several evenings. Looked forward to picking the book up again each time. Can relate to so much - the incidents, the anecdotes, the descriptions, the locations, the humour. One's own life unfolded at the back of one's mind. Many shared experiences there in my parallel universe! By definition there cannot be a sequel to this book unfortunately. Well I suppose there could be if another ten years or so of life's adventure elapse! Strongly recommended in the meantime.

"Road Works" Brian Bold manages to marry his love of cars with his love of travel in a way which engages the reader from page 1. I loved the way this original idea drives us through a lifetime with its ups and downs along the road of life. As a mere female whose interest in cars was defined by colour and radio I am a convert! We live, travel, eat and breathe with this family. Brilliant - not to be missed. Barbara Butcher

"Drives of a Lifetime" Looking back at family and business life though the prism of car ownership is an original and amusing experience. We can all produce a stream of stories about how cars have pleased and infuriated us. What Brian Bold does is cleverly weave the car stories into a 40 year (as he says) "auto" biography. A well written, sensitive, funny book, which will appeal to any reader bearing the scars of 60's, 70's and 80's car driving. Tony Hadaway

"Road Works" Written in conversational style you will find both laughs and tears here. Of the baby-boomer generation, Brian Bold's experiences in the second half of the 20th Century will evoke personal memories for many. He is the product of the extension of university education after WW2, of the migration of population from the tunnel-backs of city centres to the semi-detatched of the suburbs, and of the spread of car ownership. Brian has a particular fondness for the 20 or so cars he has owned and tells of his family's trials, tribulations and joys as each vehicle passes through his hands. Just the book for keeping Mum and Dad quiet at Christmas.
