This book is a complete guide to learning everything you need to know about building something from nothing. We will base our creations around the very popular PIC family of microcontrollers. PIC stands for “Peripheral Interface Controller.” PICs are used in all sorts of things like: alarm systems, washing machines, automobile controls, timers, medical devices and even toasters! We will be using them as the brains for all our projects. We start out by building a simple power supply and work our way up to a complete sumo-fighting robot programmed with the easy to use Mikrobasic. Along the way, we construct binary counters, light meters, infrared sensors, even a digital musical keyboard!

Probably quite good but the links to the free version of mikrobasic don't work and Mikro don't bother to reply to emails requests for help on locating the free version. So thats one wasted book I've bought :-(

"PIC Programming for the Impatient" Finally, a how-to manual that makes learning fun! Sure, we all make mistakes, but with this book, you don't feel like a dummy! PIC Programming for the Impatient anticipates so many of the common errors that beginners make when learning electronics and programming that you feel like the author is looking over your shoulder. I am using a set these of books with an after school robotics club of over 30 kids who have no prior experience in electronics or PIC programming. I could not possibly answer every question these ninth grade high school kids come up with, but the program runs smoothly, two hours pass quickly and the kids are having great success building autonomous robots. I highly recommend this book for any electronics program, computer science class looking for a way to make programming make sense to kids or an after school robotics club. Five Stars!
