The author, Bridgette Martoccia Knudson, preserves her heritage and culture through authentic family recipes from her parents' sleepy Italian mountain village. She felt compelled to document these recipes after a near fatal accident befell her father. She realized that his culinary secrets, a large part of her heritage, could have been lost forever. Time spent with her father during his long recovery gave her the inspiration to document the recipes she grew up with. The delicacies of her family are now easy for us to create with this cookbook. The cuisine, although considered "peasant food", is timeless. Through thoughtful methods of combining simple, regional ingredients with common herbs and spices Bridgette shows us that what may be considered a humble dish is truly dinner guest worthy. Throughout the book Bridgette shares 'snapshots' of her childhood alongside her family recipes giving us another glimpse of the heritage and culture she is preserving.
