Giant Miscanthus (Miscanthus x giganteus) is a perennial C4 grass from the grass family Poaceae, which is efficient in converting sunlight to biomass with limited water availability and in climates with high temperatures. It has gained much attention as feedstock for cellulosic ethanol due to its ability to grow on marginal land and being classified as non-invasive grass species. Since Miscanthus is propagated by rhizomes it is hard to meet the growing demand from farmers. A successful micropropagation protocol will help speed up regeneration cycle, reduce cost, produce high volume, being less cumbersome, and will require less space.
