Jan 30, 20175 Stars My name is Michael Pauley. I have been studying and practicing the art of Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate for eight years. I recently purchased Yushikan: Entering Through the Gateway of Gojuryu. This is an outstanding book and I would highly recommend it for any serious Karate-ka. The book offers a concise yet very interesting description of Okinawan karate lineage. I found the history of Gojuryu and how it is linked to other forms of Okinawan karate to be very enlightning and informative. This book is a wealth of karate knowledge with sections on dojo etiquette, system curriculums, Kata, Drills and more. There is also a Japanese terminology section which is very useful to anyone seriously interested in the study of Karate. This book is truly a work of art and Shihan Jones passion for karate can easily be seen in every section that he has so painstakingly researched. I read this book over two evenings and have gone back to it several times for review. I cannot recommend this book... More > more highly. I would also suggest that you purchase two of Shihan Jones other books for a complete library from this knowledgeable author. These two books are Gojuryu-Ryu Futari Geiko: Two Person Training and Okinawan Martial Arts Center, Student Progress Manual. Yushikan: Entering Through the Gateway of Gojuryu has become my go to source for all things Gojuryu.< Less
Aug 10, 2015Hi my name is Lloyd C. Johnson III. I have been involved in Gojuryu Karate-do since 1958. I have know the author and trained with him for over 25 years. I am not at all surprised at the quality of work put out by Mr. C. Michial Jones. This book is probably the most comprehensive and important books on Gojuryu written by a non Okinawan or Japanese instructor. This comprehensive book on traditional karate is suitable for not only the beginner but for the accomplished practitioner as well. I will be recommending this book to my students. This is a must read book for not just those studying Gojuryu, but for every serious karate-ka. The information inside is worth more than all of the books in your library.
Sep 30, 2011A very good book. The author provides great Gojuryu historical facts, discussions, traditional exercises and drills. A complete section provides a practice syllabus for students to advance through their karate-do training. A must have for those wishing to build a reference library to advance your knowledge and skills in the art of Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate-do.
