This book is powerful in its ability to show the prostitute as both human and laborer, it questions all forms of labor, quite artistically.

Great, incredible, book. I am shocked by the directness of the author, there are no half ways, nothing, just simple gut wrenching realizations. I would recommend that anyone who wants to see life through a woman's sexuality to read this book.

Memoirs of a Whore by Claudia Schwartz is a very intriguing and insight book to read. There is an element of disturbance and mystery underneath each word and each sentence that is woven into the novel. I found her point of view on not only her profession, but on life as well, to be very thought-provoking and interesting. The only problem I had with the book was before purchasing it, I thought it would have been more of a memoir in the sense that there would have been a back-story to how she became a prostitute and what her life was like beforehand. However, this wasn't the case as the book focuses more on her current life and how society views the prostitute and her personal comments on the way we, as a society, handle prostitution (if you've read her tweets, much of her book is like her tweets). Another problem I encountered was the lack of editing in the book, as some of the paragraphs and sentences could have been revised in spelling and grammar. However, for the most part, I would... More > definitely recommend this book because not only is it a very intriguing book to read, for the author delves into the obscure and secretive world of the whore, but it offers a lot of room for the reader to think of how we as a society look at these women who sacrifice their bodies in order to feel needed and wanted by the general public, even though prostitution has been one of civilization's longest professions.< Less

Memoirs Of A Whore was a quick, interesting read. Giving insight into a career that thankfully I know little about. The author spends quite a bit of time dissecting prostitution with a certain philosophical outlook mentioning the uglier sides of the profession; including the drudgery and mental damage that must come from selling your body to anyone for cash. I'd love to hear a follow up from her a decade or two from now, on her life after 'retirement'.
