Calhoun D. Geiger, a member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quaker), was born in 1917 in Jacksonville, Florida. He was educated at home. During World War II he was a conscientious objector, serving in Civilian Public Service Camps at Buck Creek, North Carolina and at the Eastern State Hospital in Williamsburg, Virginia. He worked on his family farm, was a Girl Scout worker, worked for the Jacksonville, Florida Boys Club, for many years was a peace education secretary for the American Friends Service Committee in the southeast, directed Quaker Lake Conference Center and Camp in North Carolina and taught at the Carolina Friends School near Durham, North Carolina.
