"International Generalizations -- Hilarious, insightful, and just plain fun to read!" I LOVE this book. It reminds me of my first time as a student abroad, and all those little differences I eventually took for granted (door handles, toilet paper, concrete telephone poles, etc.). Reading Brodersen's account of his experiences in Dijon is like seeing France through new eyes. And it's funny! From the account of his initial arrival in Dijon: "Our friendly greeters put all our bags (I had fewer than (the guy from) Boston, and thus win at life) in the back of a Renault...", to recommendations for those taking a boat ride in Paris: "If you take a boat tour, don't sit near the stern; the engines on these things are not built for stealth...", to a description of his internship at a local bank: "How many different ways can I think of say 'Welcome! The person over there will actually know how to help you!", Brodersen's humoristic writing style had me... More > giggling throughout the book. It would have been nice to read a little more detail about classes, and teachers, since this book documents a 'study abroad' semester, but perhaps it's more realistic, in that it documents what really matters during a semester abroad, which is not aways happening in class. I have recommended (or given a copy of) this book to colleagues and friends, as well as to students planning to study abroad, and all have thoroughly enjoyed it. Highly recommended.< Less
