Written by a Gearhead for Gearheads! If you are like me, and grew up in the 60's & 70's working on your car, then you'll enjoy this book. It's a fun romp down automotive memory lane as remembered by C.F. Meredith, a self addmitted geek and mathematician. He uses "GM's brush with corporate suicude as a shining example of creating your own sinkholes and then driving into them" to quote him directly. He goes on to chronicle the misteps of GM and the US auto industry in general as seen through the eyes of someone who enjoys owning and working on cars. But the book is a more than a listing of auto related design flops. It weaves a meditation on the evolution of technology over the last 40 years into an interesting personal biography of someone who clearly thought about the impact of changing technology on the auto industry and life. A fun read for old Gearheads like me but likely to be interesting to anyone who wants to understand how technology changes our life.
