MY SISTER MY HERO: A TALE OF HOLOCAUST HEROISM is a historical fiction based on a true story. It follows the journey of Salome Welner, a young French teenager, from a life of privilege to a prison camp, to the woods with the Resistance, to Maille on the day of the massacre there, and finally to America. During her adventures, Salome saves the life of a friend, and numerous times saves her little sister Alice, to whom she becomes both a mother and a hero.

I am the son of Salome Welner Green. I'm so grateful to Carol Kasser for writing this wonderful book. I've heard many of these stories from my mom and my aunt and the book fills in many of my memories. You will enjoy it and I hope you will pass on their story so future generations will never forget this horrific event in our history. My sisters and cousin were named after my French grandparents who were taken from my mom and aunt. My niece is named after my mom and my son and my cousin's daughter are named for my dad,Leon. I'm named for my mom's cousin who did not survive the holocaust. In this way their memories will continue. It is important to remember how this story continues to effect us today, not just by memorializing names, but how we treat each other and how we cherish our freedom. When my aunt passed away on Thanksgiving last year (2012) this book gave us comfort in the weeks that followed.
