Carol Rudisill has a way of touching you with the scenes she presents. Everyday, real-life situations, drawn or painted with ranging detail, come to life before your eyes. You might flip through the pages of her beautiful book surveying scenes and settings, mundane and intriguing, with admiration and interest. But then you will find the one. The one scene. The one drawing. The one presentation of real life, color, and detail that speaks to your own life. A scene that connects to your own circumstances in a way that can be very moving, maybe, very emotional. That was the case for me. That's the magic of Rudisill's work. Finding the one scene, the one circumstance (if not more) that will so remind you of a sitation or memory of your own life that you will connect with it immediately. You'll have to see it to understand. While Carol was a coworker, whe was also one of the most talented artists I knew.

"Life Lines" I recently received the book Life Lines: Drawing From Life by Carol Rudisill and am delighted. It is well put together and visually satisfying. It is a book about people. The first part of the book consists of sketches of people, and occasionally pets, I know. These are people you see on the bus, in a coffee shop and especially in work meetings. With a line here and there, she captures the details. Many of these drawings are of the details, from the way he slides his glasses up his nose to the way she holds her reading glasses and rests her head on her hand. Sometimes there is a page of faces or hands; then again, all the people around the meeting table. The artist reveals so much about the personalities around her.Another part of the book contains life drawings. These remind me of songs as they have flow and curves and shapes to them.I've only touched on all the book has to offer but I don't want to spoil the pleasure of discovery for anyone. This is a special... More > book.< Less
